SPRED Group

SPRED was introduced to Galloway in 1998. The programme originated in Chicago and was specifically designed for people with learning difficulties, recognising that `spiritual needs are real needs`. It is now being used in countries worldwide.

The Diocese of Galloway currently has groups based in Ayr, Irvine, Kilmarnock, and Stevenston. Outreach work is done on an individual basis where someone cannot access a group, or when advocacy or support is requested.

SPRED groups meet on a regular evening - fortnightly for 'Friends' and weekly for volunteers in school term time.

Friendship, Inclusion and belonging are to be found within a small, mixed group of learning disabled people, 'Friends', and volunteers from the local community.

Groups are open to all who wish to take part and there are SPRED celebrations throughout the year to which family, carers and support workers are invited.
